The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro fuel cell bus has once again claimed first place in the international electric bus comparison test organized by the German transport magazine Omnibusspiegel, earning the title of "2026 Electric Fuel Cell Bus Champion."

This marks the third consecutive year that the prestigious award has been presented to a Mercedes-Benz city bus.

The achievement also represents an important milestone for the eCitaro fuel cell model. Competing against five vehicles equipped with the same propulsion technology, the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro fuel cell bus secured a clear overall victory.

Extended Range Through Fuel Cell Technology

The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro fuel cell bus combines a fully electric drivetrain with hydrogen fuel cell technology designed to extend operational range.

During operation, the fuel cell continuously generates electricity, supplying energy to the vehicle's high-voltage battery system. This enables the bus to achieve a significantly longer operating range than battery-electric buses relying solely on onboard batteries.

Daimler Buses previously received the Electric Bus Champion award with the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro solo model in 2023, followed by the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G articulated bus in 2024.

With the latest success of the eCitaro fuel cell bus, Daimler Buses continues its winning streak in electric urban mobility, further reinforcing its leading position in the electrification of public transport.
